OXNARD, CA - Hundreds of doctors, nurses, patients
and community supporters came together in a sea of
white and blue to make their voices heard in one of
the largest marches and rallies held against health
st. “What the community witnessed is the outrage and concern that people are feeling over the senseless manner in which the State of California is trying to balance the budget on the backs of the most vulnerable,” said Roberto Juarez, CEO of Clinicas del Camino Real. “Our families, the young and old, the most frail and infirm face cut-off from vital health care services because our elected officials lack the leadership to do what’s right.” More than 400 participants gathered in Plaza Park in downtown Oxnard under overcast skies but with bright smiles and energized for the event. Some came with their toddlers, others in wheelchairs and walkers to share in this historic show of public outcry. “Today we are a symbol of the three-million others who throughout this state face the pain and suffering they will endure starting in just a few days. I call out the Governor to stop the shameless cuts to health care that will destroy what has taken decades to build,” added Juarez. The march climaxed with a rally at the Clinicas del Camino Real health facility located in Oxnard adjacent to La Colonia, the birthplace of the community’s Latino farmworker community. There they joined hands and formed a human chain around the clinic vowing to continue their struggle. “We will fight every day, every hour, every minute to stop the cuts and seek the simple justice and dignity that every human being is entitled to,” said Juarez. “We will not stop, nor will we forget.” # # # |
